Free Defensible Space Assessments

Members of the Fire Safe Council received training as part of CAL FIRE’s Defensible Space Assessor (DSA) training, a two‑day, 16‑hour course designed to strengthen wildfire preparedness across California. The class materials covered “Defensible Space requirements & best practices” and “Home Hardening & Retrofitting” skills that help residents reduce wildfire risk and improve the safety of their homes.
With this training, the Fire Safe Council is now able to provide free defensible space and home hardening assessments to anyone in the community who would like this crucial information about your house. These assessments follow CAL FIRE’s statewide standards and can provide high‑quality guidance. This program helps create “more wildfire‑resistant communities” and increases “public education and awareness.”
This service is completely non‑regulatory, meaning the goal is education and not enforcement. Whether you’re looking for advice on vegetation management, home‑hardening improvements, or simply want to understand your property’s wildfire vulnerabilities, our assessors are ready to help.
If you would like a free assessment, please reach out to the Fire Safe Council at [email protected], and we will gladly schedule a visit.
